Easter Market 2019
Am Hof5 - 22 April
The association Kunst + Handwerk vom Künstler was founded in 1988 with the goal of promoting contemporary handicrafts.
In the following years, the association organised handicrafts markets in the summer as well as during Advent in the elegant surroundings of Heiligenkreuzerhof, a complex of adjoining courtyards in the heart of the historical centre of Vienna.
In 2002 we moved - with the support of Franz Grundwalt, then the district leader - to our current location in Am Hof square, which at that time already served as a venue for various markets.
The association then tried to establish its handicrafts market in the rear section of the square between the Marian column and the extension of Drahtgasse. This turned out to be very difficult, however, as the stallholders were only equipped with tents or simple market stalls, even in winter.
In 2005 we therefore purchased walk-in stalls from the association’s own funds, whereby the fact that customers could actually go into the stalls was a very special feature.
In this way, a small handicrafts village with 19 little shops was created which soon became popular among connoisseurs of the genre.
In 2009 the association decided to intensify its cooperation with Georg Lehner, the organiser of the Easter Market and the Christmas Market in the front section of Am Hof square, although we were careful to ensure that each market retained its independence.
Through this synergy something very special for our visitors came into being. Whereas there is a bustling and humorous mood in the front section of the market, in the rear section visitors encounter a market which offers selected handicrafts in an atmosphere which is as charming as it is quiet and very personal.
Today we are proud to be able to offer our guests a high-quality blend of contemporary arts and crafts alongside special culinary delicacies. We would be very pleased to see you at our Easter Market 2019.
